HOLIDAYS......SO BEAUTIFUL;)

A week ago students finally started their holidays. After 10 months of hard work
( maybe not in every case;) ) they can have a rest. Some of them like spending  their free time relaxing and sunbathing at the seaside while others like being active and climb in the mountains. No wonder that all of us like this special time: without worries and problems we can forget about everything... I wish we had a sunny weather and an optimistic soul during the whole holidays. And just a quick note..- If you want to show us how you spend your holidays, please send some nice photos. My
e-mail address----> ola-76@wp.pl (thx in advance) and see you after summer break!

EASTER BUNNY IS VISITING THE HOSPICE...

Another visit in the hospice was on Wednesday before Easter. Our generous teenagers had some money left at school from the theatre play,so the headmaster and others decided to help the hospice once again. Festivals are the time spend with the family and friends. Unfortunately some people are sick and lonely, so it's impossible to be happy that day.. Small gifts that are given to them, may cause a little bit of happiness. It's really important and this feeling will last to the end of their days...

SOME INFO ABOUT DRUGS

Drugs - chemicals which change the way a person's body works.

ALCOHOL & CIGARETTES

These are two kinds of legal drugs. Smoking cigarrettes costs a lot of money, we become addicted to it very fast. What is more, it has bad effects for our skin and lungs. Nowadays teenagers smoke cigarettes and do not think about its consequences. Another popular problem that exists among young people is drinking huge amounts of alcohol. Some people believe that thanks to it, they feel better and become self-confident...

ILLEGAL DRUGS

''Drug problem''- abusing legal drugs and using illegal ones such as ectasy, cocaine, LSD, marijuana, heroin and crystal meth. Illegal drugs can damage heart, brain and other organs. Cocaine for example can damage our heart and cause its attack.
Using drugs causes a lot of cons such as: learning problems and sports problems. It is very common for drug abusers that they do not think clearly and can not make good decisions. Kids and teens try drugs because they want to fit in with a group of peers. They are curious about its effects. Sometimes they feel bored and this is the reason of trying them. Drugs temporarily might solve our problems, feel happier and do not think about problems for a while. Being addicted to drugs means that human's body can not function without it. It's very difficult to stop taking drugs because we become dependent on them.If we stop it, we can vomit, sweat and have tremors.

DRUG ABUSERS AND THEIR BEHAVIOUR

The way of behaviour shows addiction to drugs. These are some symptoms:
- lose interest at school (bad marks, playing truant, do not care about graduating from school)
- change relatives
- ask their ''helpers'' to be left alone
- have concentration problems
- have puffy or red eyes
- sleep a lot (during the lesons)
- have troubles with agression
- have a runny nose all the time
- cough a lot

HOW CAN WE HELP SUCH PEOPLE?

If we see that someone at our school is addicted to drugs, we should tell about it very quickly. Ignoring the problem is the worst solution. We should tell  a trustworthy adult about him / her. Drug abusers need a therapy and special treatment to stop taking the drugs. They should be aware of its bad effects and consequences in our future, short and unhappy life...:(

THEATRE FROM CRACOV AT OUR SCHOOL...

On the 19 th March two actors from Cracov visited our school. They showed us a problem of bullying. The problem was connected with cyber-bullying, money-bullying and physical-bullying. Teenagers like showing off. They like wearing fashionable clothes (especially the brand ones), buying fashionable lipglosses and other things. Cyber-bullying is when you take somebody a picture and put it on the Internet. It is forbidden and we can have huge problems doing it.

Is cyber-bullying a problem at schools? Why students use modern technology for bad things?

There are no statistics about the number of students and teachers being bullied. Another problem is that a lot of people do not want to talk about it in public. Students do not tell their parents about this problem and they don't go to school. In the UK there are some monitoring systems of various websites. This system is very good especially in Cornwall. Bebo is their social networking site, which has a special anti-bullying system..

How to spend Women's Day ?

8th March is a good day to start doing something new. On this day women can go to hairdresser and change their appearance. Looking pretty will be really necessary this day. Some sellers ( males ) plan to give flowers when a woman willl visit their shops. So be prepared to look nice this day. Apart from that women can go to a restaurant, cafe or to a disco. Maybe there will be discounts for women. It is a nice celebration for sure. Another way is to meet your best friends, make delicious supper and have spa and massages, do some nails' drawings, listen to our favourite kind of music and relax without thinking about the things that are not worth it. Happy Women's Day:)

The winter break is over...

We started our winter break on 17th February and came back to school on 3rd March. Some of our students went to the other places to have a rest and the others stayed at home. Unfortunately in the West of Poland there was no snow so we could not go skiing, but there were other ways of spending free time.Do you want to share with your opinions and ideas. Those of you who'll read it and prepare a good presentation (speaking and showing the pictures) may get 6 from an English teacher ( as additional work of course:)

A little bit of sadness on 14 th February

Unfortunately there was no show on Valentine's Day because the virus appeared at our school  and two actors ( including their English teacher ) were sick. One of them had a high temperature and was not able to come and play his role. In fact, everything we have planned so far, didn't work out......;(
I would like to write some nice words about my student - girl, who was really involved in everything. She made beautiful hearts with her classmates. She also took some photos of a Cupid who was giving  Valentine's cards for amorous students.
Kate thank you once again for your involvement and an optimistic soul. I wish  everyone was so optimistic and full of hope as you:)

Valentine's Day is coming...

In two weeks time there will be Valentine's Day and some students from our school decided to prepare a show about love. The show will be presented on 14th February 2014. I hope you'll like it. During our performance we will take a lot of photos so that you can watch them. By the way what in your opinion is the most romantic song ? Give your ideas for the class representatives.

Be prepared to take Valentine's cards with you because there will be the Valentine's post during this day.

New Year's eve - How do we spend this time ?

Chinese New Year

A lot of Chinese children dress in new clothes to celebrate the Chinese New Year. People carry lanterns and join in a huge parade led by a silk dragon, the Chinese symbol of strength. The legend says that the dragon hibernates most of the year, so people throw firecrackers to keep him awake.
In the Chinese lunar calendar each of the 12 years is named after an animal. As the legend says the Lord Buddha asked all the animals to come to him before he left the earth. Only 12 animals came to wish him farewell, and Buddha named a year after each one.

Belgium New Year

Sint Sylvester Vooranvond is called New Year's Eve. Belgian children toast with the customary champagne and write New Year's letters to their parents or godparents on New Year's day.
They decorate the cards with fancy paper complete with cherubs, angels, and colored roses and then read them aloud.

Ireland

Single Irish women place sprigs of mistletoe under their pillows on New Year's night in the hope that it will bring better luck and a future husband.
According to Irish superstition, be wary of who enters your home after the 31st — if the visitor is a tall, dark handsome man, your year will bring good fortune. A red-headed woman will bring a lot of trouble.

 Argentina

In Argentina, people believe that eating beans before the clock strikes midnight means they will have good luck in their careers in the year ahead. Some also believe that if they carry a suitcase around their house, they will travel more in the year to come

New Year's Eve in Great Britain

One of the most widely known symbols of New Year's Eve is the image of the Clock Tower at the Palace of Westminster, in London, counting down the last minutes of the old year. The first chimes of Big Ben, the bell housed in the Clock Tower, in the new year are broadcast live on radio and television. This is followed by a spectacular fireworks performance, often centered on the London Eye, which is claimed to be the largest Ferris
wheel in Europe

THANKS FOR ALL GENEROUS PEOPLE

As we written before, there was a fund raiser for people from the hospice. We went there after our X-mas meeting which was 20 th December. With a great pleasure I must admit that you are very generous and helpful for sick and poor people. We raised money and bought things that cost 502.48  and the rest of you brought necessary things such as: tea, sponge, cookies, liquid soap, etc. Thank you one more time for your generosity! You'll be noted in the registers!:)
There are some pictures below which will remind you about your deeds
